About eLPOZO

It was in 1935 when Antonio and Piedad, the parents of the current owners of ElPozo Alimentación—José, Tomás, and Juana—opened a small grocery store in Alhama de Murcia, a municipality in the Region of Murcia that at the time had a population of nearly 11,000 (today it exceeds 23,000). The store, only 12 square metres in size, was located in the ‘El Pozo Concejil’ square and was known among the locals as Antonio ‘el del pozo’s’ shop. This is where the name originated for what is now one of the leading food brands in Spain.

In 1954, 70 years ago, that small shop turned into a modest sausage factory, which, with the help of the entire family, spurred the development of the business initiative. From a small local business, through hard work, continuous improvement, enthusiasm, principles, and values, a large international corporation emerged, significantly contributing to regional and national development. Today, it is a leading brand, present in more than 80 countries worldwide. Its evolution is the best testament to its commitment to improvement through effort and honesty, which has positioned the brand eLPOZO as the most present in Spanish households for eight consecutive years.

However, beyond the hard work and effort that has helped this project grow, one thing the Fuertes family has always upheld is their values: humility, excellence, and integrity. These principles have allowed them to remain a fully family-owned and entirely Spanish capital company.

The main mission of eLPOZO Alimentación is to meet consumer expectations and respond to their needs. Established across various production centres and a headquarters spanning 400,000 square metres—equivalent to 40 football pitches—its core aim is to prioritise innovation and stay closely attuned to consumer needs. Over these 70 years of growth, the food company has developed more than 1,500 product lines across five species—pork (white and Iberian), beef, turkey, and chicken—and has focused on offering a wide range of high-quality products that allow for customised consumption.

The success of its strong results lies in the constant improvement that inspires the company to do things better every day. Innovation and sustainable development are the fundamental pillars of its strategy. However, in its expansion, two other factors have been crucial: its workforce, which is the soul of the company, and the consumers, who have recognised the quality and trustworthiness of eLPOZO products and who are at the centre of the company’s decision-making. At the same time, eLPOZO has been exemplary in promoting the quality and safety of its products with the most suitable control and monitoring mechanisms, from the origin of production to the final destination, through a unique circular model, CIP (Comprehensive Process Control), which guarantees full traceability of the food from farm to table.

Outside the food industry, eLPOZO is also known for its association with sports, which began in the 1989/1990 season when it decided to support the futsal team that bears its name—a sponsorship that remains in place today, with the team still competing in the First Division and being one of the longest-running in the country, at 35 years. Since then, sports and their values have remained intertwined with its strategy and corporate identity, through its involvement in various sports disciplines, from athletes to clubs, teams, and major events like La Vuelta or the Spanish Paralympic Team. Currently, it has brand ambassadors such as footballer Olga Carmona and tennis player Carlos Alcaraz.

Furthermore, for eLPOZO, the world of sports is so important that it is integrated into the company by promoting physical activity among its employees.
